Order Selector and... Founder/Director of Mission for Africa Children's Health Africa By: Ray Benefiel, Warehouse Supervisor, Great Lakes Regional DC

To start with, what I am about to write will not do this associate justice. Emmanuel Mohammed is a mid-shift perishable order selector that has been with the Great Lakes DC for just over a year. When I think of the term "wow," he comes to mind. Not only for what he does at work, but what he does outside of work as well.

After becoming a Christian, he left his home and his family in Ghana. In 2005, with the last bit of money that a missionary gave him, he set out to change the world, one child at a time. He founded an organization calle Mission for Children's Health Africa, to bring childrend in need of surgery that was not available in Africa, at no cost to the families.

Mohammed finds these children sometimes abandoned or orphaned, and works diligently to help them get the medical attention they so desperately need. Through the collaboration of volunteers and sponsors, hospitals and doctors provide pro bono medical treatment for these children. Funds are raised for airfare and documents that will enable the child to travel to the U.S.

They stay with host families who will care for them while they are here. Through his organization, he has helped over 60 children since 2005. If it wasn't for Muhammed, these children might not have survived.

As an associate at the Great Lakes DC, Muhammed is outstanding. He is always here with a smile on his face, and never complains. After doing research on Emmanuel and his organization (and while wiping away my tears) I realized that this is an act that needs to be recognized. The Cultural Council awarded him the Top Gun award, given to those who are the most productive within their job class, for two consecutive weeks.

Everyday I work with this man he treats me with the utmost respect, and at times I take it for granted. One thing I know is that from this day forward, I will look at Emmanuel in a different light because seeing him will remind me that what he is doing is changing the world. Hopefully by sharing this, I can help him - help more children.
